ABOUT MOON TAE KWON DO

Welcome to Moon Tae Kwon Do Academy, the home to a variety of Tae Kwon Do programs for all levels and ages. We encourage you to browse through our web pages to learn more about our programs, our history, and the martial art of Tae Kwon Do.
As one of the oldest martial art schools of California’s Central Valley, Moon Tae Kwon Do prides itself in its tradition. Directed by Master Dennis Hernandez Sr., Vice President of CUTA (California Unified Taekwondo Association) and a black belt instructor since 1977, Moon Tae Kwon Do has taught generations of Tae Kwon Do athletes. Over the years, dozens of students graduated the programs at Moon Tae Kwon Do with black belts. Many have become regular instructors, and some even started a Tae Kwon Do school of their own.
For the younger ones, we have classes that teach the basics of Tae Kwon Do, focusing on character building (e.g. self-confidence, discipline, goal setting, sportsmanship) and healthy lifestyle. They learn Pumsae (Tae Kwon Do forms) and the fundamentals of traditional Tae Kwon Do.
As they grow up, we add Kyorugi (Olympic Sparring), self-defense, traditional weapon training, board breaking, as well as more intense training for strength, endurance, speed and flexibility. As with all classes, we also teach and practice safety.
Adults will find our adult classes an excellent anaerobic and aerobic workout for any age and ability level.

WHY TAE KWON DO

The roots of modern Tae Kwon Do go back a long way to the early years of the Korean kingdoms. Warriors were trained in unarmed combat techniques to develop strength, speed, and survival skills. Today, we practice the martial art of Tae Kwon Do ("the way of the foot and fist"), based on the unification of the systems from 9 traditional Korean schools (Kwans) in the middle of last century.
No wonder Tae Kwon Do has become an Olympic sport and the world's most popular martial art. Tae Kwon Do is the most comprehensive martial art system, for any age or gender, to strengthen the body and mind. Based on its philosophy, students are taught forms, sparring and self-defense, all contributing to their strength, endurance, speed and flexibility, while developing character traits such as self-confidence and discipline.
