The story of Master Dennis Hernandez Sr. is a story of devotion to martial arts and Tae Kwon Do.
Dennis Hernandez started practicing Tae Kwon Do in Germany in 1973, during his service in the US Army. Although combat sports and martial arts were nothing new to him, he has soon developed a passion to Tae Kwon Do that lasted a lifetime. He trained under Master Michael Jun, and decided to commit his time to Tae Kwon Do.
Dennis Hernandez met Master YooKon Moon when Master Moon first came to the United States from Korea in 1975. Training under Master Moon brought new heights to his dedication, and two years later, in 1977, Dennis Hernandez has become Master Moon's first American student to receive a black belt.
Today, more than 3 decades later, Master Dennis Hernandez Sr. is a highly respected 7th degree black belt, serving as Vice President of CUTA (California Unified Taekwondo Association) and Vice President of NCTA (Northern California Taekwondo Alliance).
Over the years, Master Dennis Hernandez Sr. has trained with some of the greatest Tae Kwon Do masters of our generation. His active advocacy for Tae Kwon Do in the Northern California region, and nationally, was recognized in a letter of commendation from the Kukkiwon, the World Tae Kwon Do Headquarters.
Master Dennis Hernandez Sr. opened Moon Tae Kwon Do Academy in 1991, where generations of Tae Kwon Do athletes have developed their knowledge and skills in Tae Kwon Do.
Countless students graduated the programs at Moon Tae Kwon Do with black belts, many have become regular instructors, and some even started a Tae Kwon Do school of their own to pass on the passion to this Olympic sport and the world's most popular martial art. |
